Science Fair

Big shout-out to Parkridge Medical Center for hosting our second annual Science Fair! There were 12 booth total, along with the ambulance outside, for our 3-5 grade students to learn all about their bodies and the health care industry.

Booth #1 Medical Laboratory Professionals
Study of blood parasites and diseases

Booth #2 Germs
Students learn the proper way to apply hand sanitizer to effectively eradicate germs.

Booth #3 Food Guide Pyramid
Students learned a new way to create a healthy plate. Visit Choose My Plate.gov to learn more!

Students practiced making healthy choices with what they put on their plate.

Booth #4 Fats and Sugars
By far the most disgusting booth, and the most informative.  Students received a visual as to how much fats and sugars can be found in their meals and candy.
The different vials contain sugar in the gram amounts that is found in cereals, drinks, and other popular foods.
This is 5 pounds of fat. Lovely, isn't it?

Booth #5 Heart Rate
Students learned how to track their resting and accelerated heart rates.
If you look at the Food Guide Pyramid closely, you'll see that on the side there is a person climbing a staircase. This is to remind us that eating right is nothing without physical exercise. Get up, get out, and exercise!

Booth #6 Blood Pressure
Parkridge made sure to not test the teachers, only the students. :)

 Booth #7 Cardiovascular
Students learned about the functions of the heart, the different chambers, and looked at an Echocardiogram of a heartbeat.

Booth #8 MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging)
The Students learned all about the nervous system in the brain  and how doctors used the MRI to find malfunctioning areas of the body.

 Booth # 9 Radiation
Student learned what could make them GLOW! The techs explained about radiation, what machine to use to find out if they were exposed to radiation, and the effects of radiation on the human body.

Booth # 10 Life Cycle
